TGR Haas F1 Team swap the track for the pitch with Coventry City FC
April 7, 2026
TGR Haas F1 Team enjoyed a unique change of pace last week off the back of the Japanese Grand Prix as team members swapped the track for the pitch at Coventry City Football Club’s (CCFC) training ground, the Sky Blue Lodge, to exchange performance insights with the EFL Championship side.
The Banbury-based team gained insight into the players’ day-to-day training during a shared gym session, before moving into a dedicated TGR Haas F1 Team gym and mobility workout. From the gym, Haas staff were also able to observe CCFC’s on-pitch training as the team prepares for its final push for promotion to the Premier League.
The afternoon kicked off with a presentation from Coventry City’s Team Psychologist for Haas staff, followed by a session led by Performance Coach and Team Physiotherapist Faith Atack-Martin for members of the football club. Those eager for more action headed out onto the training pitch later in the day for football activities.
The visit offered a fresh perspective for everyone involved, highlighting the similarities between Formula 1 and football when it comes to teamwork, precision, and constant improvement. It also resonated at a leadership level, with senior figures from both organizations reflecting on the value of shared perspectives across elite environments.
Team Principal of TGR Haas F1 Team and long-time Coventry City supporter, Ayao Komatsu, said: “In recent years I’ve learned that it’s important to talk to people who are in different environments and backgrounds, as you always discover something new. For TGR Haas F1 Team and Coventry City, we’ve got real synergy in terms of the size of our organizations and the challenges we face. While the people and environments may be different, the focus on getting the best out of individuals is the same, and there is always something we can learn from each other.
“I have a great dialogue with Doug King, the owner of Coventry City, and since he took over, the culture he’s building is synonymous with what we’re trying to achieve at TGR Haas F1 Team. There’s a lot we can continue to work on together that could benefit both organizations.”
Coventry City Football Club Manager, Frank Lampard, added: “We’re two teams in different industries, but both trying to improve all the time. It’s been great to share information and stories with a team that’s doing similar work in F1, not just for myself, but for everyone involved.
“I think it’s always important for teams to share knowledge, because you can always pick things up. In elite sport we’re always trying to find the smallest details and the smallest improvements at all times. While football and motorsport are very different, crossing that divide and exchanging ideas means you can always take something valuable away. It’s been a really positive day and hopefully a relationship we can continue.”
Both teams, overperforming with fewer resources and assets compared to their competitors, are enjoying brilliant seasons so far, with Coventry City FC needing four points from their remaining five games to secure promotion, while TGR Haas F1 Team is currently fourth in the Constructors' Championship.
